1. Lao Cai City

4. Lung Po Junction

Lũng Pô is the name of a stream in A Mú Sung Commune, Bát Xát District. The Lũng Pô Stream flows into the Red River at border marker 92, which is known as “where the Red River enters Vietnamese territory.” At the river junction, the green waters of Lũng Pô blend with the red waters of the Red River.

The Lũng Pô Flagpole is a famous check-in spot in the area, standing at a height of 31.43 meters, symbolizing the peak of Fansipan (which is 3,143 meters high). At the top, there is a flag measuring 25 square meters, representing the 25 ethnic groups in Lao Cai. The pathway leading to the top of the flagpole features 125 spiral steps.

5. Y Tý

Y Tý is a border commune in Bát Xát District, situated at an altitude of over 2,000 meters above sea level. It is one of the most beautiful cloud-hunting spots in Vietnam, with the most stunning views of golden rice fields from September to October and October to March.

Y Tý is about 90 kilometers from Lao Cai City, accessible via the Bát Xát – Trình Tường – Lũng Pô – A Mú Sung – A Lù – Ngải Thầu route. Visitors can also reach Y Tý from Sapa through the Bản Khoang – Tả Giàng Phìn – Bản Xèo – Mường Hum – Sàng Ma Sáo route, which is approximately 70 kilometers. 

Typical activities in Y Tý include visiting the Mường Hum market, which only operates on Sunday mornings. Strolling and enjoying the rice fields in the Choản Thèn village is also an ideal option.

6. Hoàng A Tưởng Mansion

The mansion was built from 1919 to 1921. The local people still commonly refer to this place as the “Mèo King’s house.” It belongs to a Tay ethnic person named Hoàng Yến Chao (whose son later took over and was named Hoàng A Tưởng). The house was designed by the French, following the architectural style of ancient castles in Europe, and it is relatively well-preserved. The Mèo King’s house still retains artifacts such as a set of trường kỷ (antique wooden furniture) and a Chinese wall mirror. Additionally, there are three mộc flowers, which are as old as the house itself.

It’s a popular spot for trekking, photography, and picnics, making it ideal for both adventure seekers and families. The area around the waterfall is also rich in biodiversity, featuring various flora and fauna unique to the region.

1. Bac Ha pink pho

The pink pho is soft and smooth, and since it is not preserved, it should only be consumed on the same day. The most popular dish using pink pho is “phở chua” (mixed pho). A typical bowl consists of pink pho noodles, roasted pork, fresh herbs, finely chopped pickled mustard greens, crushed peanuts, a bit of sour sauce, along with special seasonings made from soybeans, “dổi” seeds, cardamom, ginger, stir-fried chili, and chili sauce.
